an old lion reading

Listen to Chinua Achebe on Cross-Cultural Poetics (from the University of Pennsylvania).

It is good to hear -- and not at all surprising (to me) -- to see the widely embraced doyen of African literature, Chinua Achebe, focusing on his poetry as he travels and reads over these last few years. There are relatively few poems, and I do wish that we could read more, and read more recent work.

But I will, of course, quite happily (if not uncritically) embrace what he has gifted us; as, for instance, those lucky enough to have been on the Harvard campus last month had the opportunity to.
